investment protection, as the switch can be easily upgraded to
full Fabric support. It becomes a full fabric switch by simply
upgrading switch software via a license key. A Fabric serves as an

With the Fabric upgrade option, the SilkWorm 2100 has the full set
of features available to Brocade's high-end SilkWorm switch
family.

The Brocade SilkWorm 2100 provides a high-speed interconnection
for a Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL). An alternative to a
hub-based solution, the SilkWorm 2100 enhances performance due to
its true switching environment, provides 800 megabytes-per-second
(MB/sec) aggregate bandwidth, and increases availability through
better fault isolation. The switch is ideally suited for Storage
or Server Area Network (SAN) environments with hosts and devices
supporting loop configurations.
